Dr Penna studied Medicine at Adelaide University graduating in 1977. After working at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide Children's Hospital and in the UK where he studied Obstetrics he settled in Berri in 1980 with his wife, Josie. He is a keen golfer and member of two wine clubs. He also enjoys working his own vineyard and orchard. Medical interests include teaching minor surgery and occupational health.

Dr Dunn studied at the University of Adelaide and graduated in 1981. After spending his intern year in Adelaide he went to the UK to study Obstetrics, Paediatrics and General Medicine. He has been in Berri since 1984. With his wife Meredith he has three children. He is interested in all aspects of General Practice with special interests in Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Mental Health. His leisure interests include family time, cycling and walking and outback travel.

 

Dr Kevin Stanton

Dr Stanton graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1980. After further in hospital training in Anaesthetics, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Psychiatry he spent 4 years in general practice in Adelaide. He and his wife moved to Berri in 1988 fulfilling his ambition of being a country GP. They have raised 3 children in the Riverland. His current medical interests include Obstetrics, Paediatrics , Emergency and Trauma Medicine , and General Practice. He teaches the Advanced Life Support course in Obstetrics throughout Australia. Outside of medicine his main interests are time with his family, gardening, flying radio controlled model aeroplanes at Loxton, and following the Adelaide Crows.

 

Dr Rohan Williams

Dr Williams graduated from Flinders University in 2002 after spending a year at the Berri Medical Clinic as a student in 2001. He was previously an Army Medic and Registered Nurse working in remote aboriginal communities before embarking on his medical career. He is married to Annie and has four young daughters. After graduating he worked on the Sunshine Coast before returning to Berri in 2005. His medical interests are Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Palliative Care and Emergency Medicine. Socially he devotes himself to his family activities.

Dr Kobus van Staden

MSc, MBChB, FRACGP

Dr van Staden studied medicine at the University of Pretoria (South Africa) graduating in 1986. He previously qualified as a Psychologist at Potchefstroom University in 1978. After working for three years at the Edendale Hospital (Pietermaritzberg) he worked in private practice for 12 years in Rustenburg, South Africa. After moving to Australia with his wife, Hanlie, and 2 of his 3 daughters he worked in Pt Lincoln for 2 years before moving to Berri in 2004. He enjoys sport (jogging) and gardening. Medical interests include Obstetrics, Anaesthetics, Minor Surgery and Paediatrics.

Dr Ghulam Jilani

Dr Ghulam Jilani  migrated to Australia from Pakistan with his wife and three children in 2007 and worked at Roxby Downs before moving to Berri in 2008. He graduated from Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad in 1989 and worked as a GP in Pakistan. Dr Jilani and his family are settling in well and love the Riverland. He says it is a wonderful place to live due to its relaxed nature and close proximity to the City of Adelaide. He has 2 sons at high school and a daughter in primary school.

Dr Janssen Ang

Advanced Registrar

Dr Janssen Ang was born and grew up in Malaysia. He came to Adelaide to complete his medical degree at the University of Adelaide. He did his internship and subsequent residency at Lyell McEwin Hospital from 2006 to 2008. He worked at the Women’s & Children’s and Modbury Hospital in 2009 prior to coming to the Riverland in 2010 to complete the rest of his training in General Practice. He is married to Sharon. This is Janssen's first stint as a rural doctor.He says he is finding the job very challenging but also very satisfying. Personal interests include food, music, travelling and video games (to feed his inner child!)

 

Interns

Our interns rotate every 10 weeks from Flinders Medical Centre where they are doing their first year following graduation. They work under the supervision of one of our senior doctors assisting with consultations, suturing, plastering, and admissions to hospital. We hope they enjoy their experience and join the GP training program.

Medical Students

Medical students from Flinders University Rural Clinical School Parallel Rural Clinical Curriculum program spend the whole of their third year studying in our clinic. At the end of this year they sit their final exams so it is a vital part of their training. They work with our doctors assisting with consultations and procedures as well as helping manage hospital patients.
